Give Thanks

Posted: October 11, 2010 in Devotionals

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!

Psalm 105:1-3 (ESV)

Psalm 105 is a hymn….a song celebrating God’s faithfulness to his people. The entire psalm recounts events from Isael’s history and it begins and ends with a note of thanksgiving and praise (v.1-3 and the end of verse 45). As believers, we would do well to reflect on the LORD’s faithfulness to us….and Psalm 105 gives us a picture a correct response in light of His faithfulness:

1) We Say Thanks (privately and publicly).

The LORD’s faithfulness should make us thankful. He owes us absolutely nothing good, so everything that we receive that isn’t judgement/condemnation (Hell) is a gracious gift…And for that we should be thankful!

2)We  Share With Others.

The LORD is amazing and He has done amazing things! Think about the things that He has done for you…and then tell somebody else!

3) We Sing Praise to Him.

The LORD’s goodness/ kindness will make you want to sing (even if you can’t carry a tune in a bucket!). This is what we were created for. To worship God from the heart. For the believer…we’ve been given hearts that can do what we were made for (through faith in Jesus Christ).  Be thankful….and sing to him!

4) We Brag About Him.

Glory in his name. Talk him up! Boast about him! 1 Corinthians 1:31- “….let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord”.  Glory in….boast about…brag on something….someone… The ONE….who actually deserves it!

5) We Rejoice!

‘Nuff said…..

Happy Thanksgiving!
